California Drivers Ed for Teens

January 28th, 2008

Parents can choose to teach their their kids driver education by showing them how to drive in the state of Florida. There a number of rules that apply to this exception however. For instance, like every other state, there is a minimum of hours that need to be spent behind the wheel with your parent in order for you to complete the driver education process. This is a great advantage for those kids who can not attend a formal driver education course because of where they live or because of some other difficult reason. This problem can be completely eliminated when the parent opts to teach their teen driver education.

In the state of Florida, every first time driver must complete the DATA course. DATA stand for drug, alcohol, traffic, awareness. This is a four hour long Florida drivers ed course which must be state approved and goes over basic information about things such as drugs, alcohol, and traffic safety and regulations. This course can be taken online as well as the learner’s permit preparatory course. Once you have completed these, you can then take the written exam in order to obtain your learner’s permit.

Several students do not pass the written test the first time, so it is recommended that both the parent and the teen go over these courses together. As a parent, you can help assist your child in any areas where they maybe having difficulty with. By going over this together and online, you can work at your pace and on your own schedule. This way nobody feels rushed and the teen can fully comprehend the curriculum. By the time the teen takes the written test, they should pass it the first time with ease. In addition, the parent can be involved in the whole process of their child learning how to drive.

Winter repair project

January 20th, 2008

With all this winter cold hitting the area its time to stay indoors and start some repair projects. Well I guess the garage counts as staying indoors although its not as toasty as a nice roaring fireplace.

One vehicle repair project that my friend is working on is his military vehicle restoration. He has the shell adn major parts of a Canadian military iltis jeep. The thing is that most of the smaller moving parts are missing or broken. So its become quite the long term fixer upper.

We have been able to find some iltis parts on ebay so everry few weeks we open up some packages and start adding more parts. The thing is that some parts don’t really ship well. Trying to get a new windscreen shipped to you is kind of expensive. So we are still missing a few parts but the project rolls on and hopefully by 2009 we’ll be done.

Clean to a sneeze free winter

January 2nd, 2008

If you have the furnace cranked at this time of year you might be sneezing alittle bit more than a few months ago. What is happening is that your furnace is just pumping out billions of parts of dust, mold and for someone like me cat hair.

So the most obvious solution is to move somewhere warmer where you don’t need a furnace. Well if that one won’t fly because of some excess Christmas shopping I’d suggest you hit the stores one more time and pick up a new heavy duty vacuum cleaner.

It sounds crazy but its true. You need to clean more often to catch all the dust and dirt from flying around your house. Do not just look for any old vacuum. Make sure it has some special features that help combat allergies and small dust. Kirby vacuum parts have some special features that are designed to help anyone who suffers from allergies.

Post holiday wheeling and dealing

January 2nd, 2008

Right now is the time to be looking for a new computer system. The prices are nice and low and retailers reallly start to get nervous when January arrives. They know that all those units sitting on their shelves should have been moved during December.

So if you are looking at buying a new system you should try and bundle everything together and get the best possible price. Hey it’ll make the saleperson happy to be moving all those boxes and you should be getting a good deal.

One area to watch out for is the printer. Because it has the greatest potential to cost you money in the long term. Avoid ink jet printers at all cost because they will end up costing you money. Get a good HP printer if its available and try to get the saleperson to throw in an extra MICR toner cartridge. If they are willing to add that one item you know if have got a great deal.

Check out the online winners

December 16th, 2007

With the end of the year rapidly approaching it contest deadline time for many folks. I’m not talking about some winter escape to Mexico. No at the end of the year almost all publications have some sort of year end review contest.

In the past I’ve looked forward to all the different photo contests. Plus the advertising annuals are great because they contain ads and ideas for many small campaigns that you might not see in your local market.

One of the newer yearly contests involves Web design work from various companies. Again these contests can be interesting because there is no way that you can see all the great content being created by all the web designers. Some of the best entries come from smaller markets or regions of the world were you would never think that good web design is generated.

Software determines computer

December 15th, 2007

My quest for the new home computer has lead me to be slightly more noisy around other computer users. I figure that once I see what everyone else is using it will help me in my decision.

One thing to consider is that some people might only be working in Word and surfing the net. Very light users, very light computer needs.

I noticed that one of my friends was using a computer to run his construction business. He’s using a specific piece of Construction Software to plan out all the details of his jobs. What this really showed me was that his computer needs were meet more by this one piece of software than by buying a big machine.

Restaurants done right

December 11th, 2007

One of my neighbours has taken the dive into the independent business world by opening up a restaurant. He knows what he is doing in the business world in a money and finance sense. But the restaurant world is so different.

Something like over 50 per cent of new restaurants fail in the first year. I can see why after a trip down to his store. He’s still getting ready to open but he has already had some problems with his industrial refrigeration equipment.

See this is were his experience in the business world collided with the reality of the restaurant world. He had saved several thousands dollars by buying something that was used. No big deal it was installed and working. It broke down after one week but he didn’t seem to care because the folks who installed it offered a warranty.

Car door prize delivery

December 4th, 2007

One of the toughest jobs going is riding on the mean streets as a bicycle courier. Yes everyone has a story about some rude courier who gave them the finger. But most couriers have a tough time out on the street trying to make some cash.

One of my university bound friends introduced me to someone who is a courier in Boston who recently entered the old door prize contest. Whats that you ask? Well those couriers face one thing almost everyday. People opening car doors without looking. Its called the door prize.

So my friends was riding along in traffic when wham out comes the door. Obviously the first thing the driver says is sorry but once they realized that my courier friend was actually hurt badly they started singing a different tune. For some reason it was now my couriers friends fault that the door flew open and he crashed and broke his collarbone. Wow. Time to find some nice and friendly boston personal injury lawyers to help you out. The legal system exists for situations like this one.

Life insurance tip for seniors

December 3rd, 2007

At this time of year many folks are looking at their yearly budgets and wondering where all that money went. For some folks its just a matter of picking up another shift or waiting for the year end bonus to help smooth out those financial ripples.

But if you are older finding that extra cash can be difficult. And if you are retired and living of a fixed income from pensions finding that extra income stream is impossible. One thing that many seniors do is try and cut back on expenses and sometimes they cut out their life insurance policy payments.

It makes sense in some situations but a better solution would be some sort of life insurance settlements from one of the companies that offer this service.

A Greek university education

November 30th, 2007

I have several friends who are attending university or college in the USA right now. Part of the university experience for plenty of people is becoming Greek. No I do not mean they take out citizenship from Greece, its that they become part of a Greek organization. Most of them have joined or are linked up with a fraternity or sorority.

I think they joined more as a method of meeting some new folks. The usually classroom experience for newer students from out of town does not really lend itself to meeting new people. I noticed one change when everyone came back for Thanksgiving. They all had some Greek clothing. Its just their way of showing other folks that hey I’m joined up with some other folks.
